Blockprint offers discreet and confidential collections management and art advisory service for the private art collector and in-house corporate art collections. The two principals of Blockprint have over thirty-five years of museum and private collections management experience. Unlike many other advisory services, Blockprint provides a distinctly different insight into the art market having been an active artist working within the museum and private collections field since 1983.
Blockprint and its consultants follow museum standards and practices. A hands-on approach is employed to provide custom solutions sensitive to the client and at the same time respectful to the integrity of the object under our care. Our service is experienced in handling paintings and sculpture, prints and drawings, fine furniture and antiques, rare books and autograph music manuscripts.
Art management is a broad term that covers many different services needed for quality care of a collection. The following is a list of services that Blockprint can provided to the private art collector or corporate collection.
Consulting:
Provide insight into art investment with a focus on generational purchases, establish standards of operation and acquisition within an existing collection, or introduce avenues of possible interest in the broad market of contemporary art.
Blockprint can review and develop on an existing collection for the purpose of appraisal, estate planning or deaccession.
Collection Database:
A collection database is a necessary tool that tracks the location, exhibition history, loans, donations, sales and purchases of your fine art and objects. This software can be configured to provide reports necessary for accurate accounting specific to tax and estate planning purposes.
There are art management packages available that can be recommended, or a custom database can be designed using either Microsoft Access or Filemaker Pro. This database can then be updated by Blockprint, or a household staff member can be trained in the skills required to maintain the records to a museum standard.
Conservation:
Facilitate the conservation of aged or damaged artwork with top conservationists. It is our belief that conservation should be done with the least invasive methods possible to protect the original intent of the artist or craftsman and the value of the work. We have extensive experience in working with contemporary art, fine furniture, decorative objects and works on paper.
Insurance and Appraisals:
The value of objects is always changing. We can create a cycle of review and appraisal for you collection and properties so that your current insurance coverage adequately protects the value of all your properties. Appraisal of all objects will be done using the standards established by USPAP.
Maintenance:
As a collection grows, there is a need to oversee the storage, installation, crating, shipping, and condition reports. Proper storage facilities, art handlers and shippers can be recommended and managed according to the specific needs of each object and household(s).
Purchases, Sales and Charitable Donations
We can arrange for the sale of artworks either in the private market or within a selected auction house. Blockprint can also recommend and negotiate the placement of donations to major museums or institutions.
Exhibitions and Loans:
Oversee the door to door process of lending your artwork for exhibition. This would include the negotiation of loan agreements, insurance, customs and crating, rights and reproduction concerns and the complimentary catalogue from the lender institution.
Publications:
Custom catalogues can be created for your collection as a reference guide, insurance document or for the enjoyment of beautiful work. This service is offered from initial design to final private publication. The written documentation or essays can be commissioned if desired.
